Festival Hair Tutorials & Top Styling Tips!

At Blue Tit, we understand that festivals are a space for creativity & self-expression. Join us as we dive into the must-have festival hairstyles for 2024, with top tips from our talented styling team heading out to Dimensions festival this summer!

Featuring step-by-step festival styling tutorials, Oway product recommendations, and plenty of inspiration to help you stand out from the crowd, this is the place to get festival ready.

Using looks from our 2024 club kid-inspired festival shoot, we want to put a spin on your styles this summer.

#1: LIBERTY SPIKES

  1. Establish a clean sectioning pattern, creating a solid foundation ensuring the end result is clean and balanced.

  2. Saturate with product. Callum from Blue Tit Clapton recommends Oway’s medium-to-strong hold styling spray, sculpting mist, as it is the stronger of their sprays. Real emphasis on the saturation with this style!

  3. Set the shape with hot air from the hairdryer, switching to cool to finish.

  4. Maintain tension throughout to keep the structure of each spike.

  5. Treat each spike as if creating a pyramid, working methodically through each section, following each of these steps on the base, creating a solid foundation to work up from the mids to ends.

#2: PARTY BRAIDS

  1. Detangle the hair and separate the hair into six even sections.

  2. For each section, apply Oway’s glimmering bond strong-hold styling gel on the root & secure with a band.

  3. Continue this for the other sections so you’re left with six ponytails.

  4. Apply some serum (Michael from Blue Tit Brixton recommends the Silk’n Glow anti-frizz styling serum from Oway), separate the ponytail into three, and braid until finished, then tie with a small elastic hair band.

  5. Do the same with each strand, and finally, slick down your edges. Voila!
Festival hair: Star Buns

#3: STAR BUNS

  1. Start with a diamond section at the crown, four sections around the front and two at the back.

  2. Apply Oway’s shaping putty to each section. Talia from Clapton recommends this medium-strong hold hair putty to give the perfect structured hold.

  3. Secure each section with an elastic band in ponytails.

  4. Twist the hair until it wraps around the ponytail.

  5. Spray the hair with Oway’s Molding Mist styling spray to keep it in place.

#4:WAVES FT. BEADED BRAIDS

  1. Start with clean, dry hair. Take two sections at the front of the hair either side of the parting.

  2. Thread the beads in between each strand of hair when braiding the front.

  3. Take thin sections throughout the rest of the hair.

  4. Clamp the wave barrel on each section for a few seconds.

  5. Once you’ve finished waving, spray with Oway’s molding mist, a perfect spray for waves.

#5: TWIST OUT

  1. Wash, detangle, and apply leave-in moisturiser to the hair – Michael recommends the Finest Fluid lightweight conditioning spray from Oway.

  2. Leave out one section at the back of the hair and tie everything else out of the way.

  3. Take a small square section and apply Oway’s curl priming cream – this gives instant hydration and definition to your curls! Comb through and separate this strand into two. Twist them both in the same direction and cross them over until you get to the bottom. Twist it up in a foam rod.

  4. Continue doing this for every section until this is all finished, stick in a hood dryer or diffuse until dry.

  5. Once dry, separate and shape to the desired look.

#6: 90s BRICKWORK PONYTAILS

  1. Start mapping out the sections by starting from the centre part, creating a brickwork effect by sectioning in twos and threes. Once happy with the first two sections, begin to apply the product.

  2. Choose the correct product for your client to lock the hair into place so the sections pop and give strong control to lock hair. Reece from Clapton recommends the Quick Glue styling putty from Oway: a must-have for on-the-go festival hairstyles!

  3. Reece then used pink elastics to add to the look and give it an extra pop! He explains you can also use mini scrunchies for added structure and more vivid colours.

  4. Leave the hair to fall naturally, smoothing the ends with the irons to avoid stacking.
